Faculty contribute to our institutions and serve our students best when we know what’s expected of us. As we have begun to organize around Maryland, we’ve found inconsistency and opacity around when and how faculty are approved or denied promotion or advancement. We have found that same inconsistency and opacity with regard to decisions about if, and to what degree, newly hired faculty are given credit for our degrees and professional experience – impacting our salaries for the rest of our careers.
By organizing strong unions, we can create policies that make expectations more clear and
