The American Federation of Teachers (AFT) is a union of professionals that champions fairness, democracy, economic opportunity, high-quality public education, healthcare, and public services for our students, their families, and our communities. AFT Higher Education

The AFT represents higher education faculty (including both full- and part-time), professional staff and graduate employees, in all sectors of higher education: public and private, two-year, and four-year institutions of higher education.

The AFT Higher Education division's mission is to help our affiliates and their members prosper in the face of political, economic and technological forces challenging the most basic assumptions about the union's role on campus.

About AFT-Maryland State Federation

AFT-Maryland, an affiliate of the American Federation of Teachers, AFL-CIO, was chartered in 1973 and today represents more than 18,000 members in the State of Maryland.

The local unions within our State Federation represent pre-K through 12th-grade teachers; paraprofessionals and other school-related personnel; higher education faculty and professional staff; state and local government employees; and nurses and other healthcare professionals.
